DUPES/CLONES

 DUPES/CLONES

Dupe is a term used for perfumes that resemble much more expensive and higher quality perfumes. These perfumes are the clones of their expensive "big brothers".
Dupe fragrances are important to exist because they are available for those who can't or don't want to spend a lot of money on expensive niche perfumes, but they still want to wear something similar.

There are clothing stores/brands that also produce clone perfumes like Zara, and they are quite successful at it.
Don't get me wrong, Designer brands also make very similar and clone fragrances.

For example:
  • Dior sauvage elixir - Lattafa Asad (Dupe)
  • Dior sauvage - Prada Luna Rossa Carbon (Dupe)
  • Creed Aventus - Armaf Club de Nuit Intense Man (Dupe)
  • Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 - Ajmal Aristocrat for Her (Dupe)

Pros/Cons:

Pros:
  • They are much cheaper than the originals
  • There are really good dupes which are very similar to the originals
  • It provides an opportunity for perfume enthusiasts who cannot afford to spend a lot of money on this hobby
Cons:
  • Perfumes are not long-lasting, as they do not use expensive notes
  • The ingredients and production of dupe fragrances can be of lower quality, which means the scent may fade faster or not be as complex as the original.
  • Dupe fragrances often operate in a legal grey area, as they replicate the creations of well-known perfumers without their permission.
